How to Make Crappie Chum

Making your crappie chums is a great idea. Many anglers prefer the homemade chums because they can keep the blood and guts of the minnows which will help to attract more crappies. You can use scissors to cut up the minnows into smaller bits to be used as crappie chums. To avoid a mess, I always advise anglers to use the special chum buckets which can be purchased from nearby shops.
Other options for crappie chumming include a dried dog or cat food, and small bits of bread. However, using dried food may be more difficult for amateur anglers because they tend to absorb water quickly and get lost beneath the water before crappies are attracted to the scent.
Chumming with minnows
Crappies are always attracted to minnows. Making your minnow chumming is quite easy. First, you have to cut up the minnows, keeping the guts and blood. Crush the other parts of the minnow with your hands or a blender.
Put some quantity of your chumming into a chumming bucket, lower your chumming bucket into the area you have detected crappies with your crappie fish finder device and wait for the rush of crappies that will be attracted to your chumming.
Dried dog food for chumming
Cat food has also been used for this purpose. You can either drop some piece of the chums into the water or wait for the crappies to come for a meal. Alternatively, attach small pieces of your chum to treble hooks which will catch crappies in the water when they have a bite of your bait.
Chumming with waxed worms
You can also land crappies with waxed worms. After purchase, you should preserve the waxed worms in a freezer, but they have to be thawed and popped before use as chums.
Popping the waxed worms makes the scent stronger to attract more crappies. Once you have chosen your fishing location, throw some pieces of waxed worms out to float around your boat or kayak, and then set your chum bucket with more waxed worms in the water.
Crappie chumming can be done at any time of the day; however, anglers prefer using this crappie fishing method at night because crappies are more active at dusk.
